Warm Homes: Local Grant
Up to £30,000 per household - £500 million to help 200,000 low-income homes via local authorities
Launched in April 2025, this scheme provides energy efficiency improvements through 270 local authorities across England. It targets low-income households in the worst-performing homes.
What's Covered?
- Insulation (loft, cavity wall, solid wall)
- Heating upgrades (boiler replacement, heat pumps)
- Ventilation and draught-proofing
- Energy efficiency assessments
Who Qualifies?
- Low-income households (specific thresholds set by local authorities)
- Homes with EPC rating D-G
- Homeowners or private tenants (with landlord permission)
- Located in participating local authority area
Applications Currently Paused
New applications for the Warm Homes: Local Grant are currently paused. Applications are expected to reopen in Spring 2026. Register your interest now to be notified when the scheme reopens.

ECO4 Scheme (Energy Company Obligation)
The UK's largest energy efficiency scheme - Free or heavily subsidized installations
ENDING MARCH 31, 2026 - Apply Now!
ECO4 closes on 31 March 2026. Apply as soon as possible to secure free energy efficiency improvements before the scheme ends. ECO5, its successor scheme, is expected to launch in April 2026 with updated criteria.
ECO4 runs until March 2026 and is funded by energy suppliers. It provides free home improvements to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions. It will be succeeded by ECO5 from April 2026.
Who Qualifies?
- Households receiving benefits (Universal Credit, Pension Credit, ESA, JSA, Housing Benefit, etc.)
- Low-income households (under £36,000)
- Property EPC rating of D-G
- Homeowners or private renters (with permission)
What's Covered?
- Cavity wall insulation
- External & internal wall insulation
- Loft, floor & room-in-roof insulation
- Boiler replacement & heating upgrades
- Solar panels (in some cases)

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)
Get £7,500 towards a heat pump installation - now extended to 2030
The BUS provides grants of up to £7,500 for heat pumps and other low-carbon heating technologies to help homeowners switch from fossil fuel heating to renewable alternatives. The scheme has been extended to 2030, with new eligible technologies added.

Eligibility:
- Replacing fossil fuel heating (gas, oil, LPG)

Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)
Scheme closed to new applicants October 2025
Scheme Closed: October 2025
GBIS is no longer accepting new applications. The scheme closed to new applicants in October 2025. Consider the Warm Homes Plan or ECO4 scheme instead for insulation funding.
GBIS aims to improve energy efficiency across the UK by providing insulation measures to a broader range of households than ECO4, including those in higher council tax bands.
Eligibility:
- All council tax bands (A-H)
- EPC rating D-G
- Homeowners and private renters
- Household income under £36,000 (or on benefits)
Measures Covered:
- Cavity wall insulation
- Loft insulation
- Solid wall insulation (in some cases)
- Park home insulation
Note: May require a small contribution depending on household income.
